Screening is performed to identify the presence of disease, or the risk for a disease. Screening is done in the form of interviews, health tests, or psychological interventions.

Ethical issues associated with screening involve screening that is used for stereotyping and exclusion. As an example, Glassgold & Knapp (2008) found that many Christian and Jewish denominations rely on psychologists to screen or evaluate clergy for religious professions. The psychologists screen for pedophilia, alcoholism, substance abuse, and psychological traits or disorders, citing these traits as a cause for ineffective functioning as a member of the clergy. According to Glassgold & Knapp, the psychologists’ reports are significant and could jeopardize a job.
