Oftentimes students are encouraged by parents and educational professionals (society in general) to think about college or university to increase the person’s earning capacity and the likelihood of getting a job or career that she or he is interested in as a chosen career or profession. However, if the student does not thrive academically, then other options should be presented to the student. Ultimately, in the end though, it is the student’s decision. For example, if the student decides to work instead of go to college, then one would need to explore the types of jobs or occupations that she or he is interested in terms of market research (availability, income, qualification, skills, etc.).
