NSB017: Diversity and Health: Cultural Safety- Nursing Report Writing Assignment

Task:

Reflect on the lectures, tutorials and required readings in weeks 1 -3 (see detailed weekly reading program in the table on Blackboard under Learning Resources]. Think about how you are reacting to [thinking and feeling about] the readings, lectures and tutorials.

Step 1: Describe your overall reaction to [feelings and thoughts about] this material citing relevant examples to illustrate your points from the readings and tutorial experiences as you go. You also need to identify at least 1 value [a characteristic, situation, or practice that you hold in very high regard] that is related to the way you are reacting.

Step 2: Identify and describe one [1] of your assumptions that you became aware of through developing new knowledge and understanding from the readings, learning activities and the reflective process [i.e. note that an assumption is an automatic response to something or someone based on a set opinion you held about something or someone, that was not supported by enough knowledge]

Step 3: Then describe how the assumption [identified in step 2] might have limited your ability to practice in a culturally safe way by influencing your nursing if you had not become aware of it.

Step 4: Then, based on your reflection, discuss the social and historical situation where your assumption [identified in step 2] developed. Step 5: This step requires you to reflect on one of your set readings. Note that most of the response should address the second two dot points below.
