The following scenario is designed to allow you the opportunity to contemplate and analyze ethical situations you are likely to encounter in a position of management. All of the scenarios are real-life in that they have actually occurred. Generally speaking, there are no right or wrong answers, just different perspectives. Scenario Two

Ethics and People Management

You have just taken over the management of a team of ten people. The team has a history of infighting and bickering. Unbeknownst to you before taking the position, the previous manager left the position after just six months of service due to the dysfunction of the team. You quickly discover that the dysfunction of the team is due in large part to the behavior of one person, a person who has worked for the organization for over 30 years. You call the person into your office to discuss the problems the person is creating for the team. During the course of your discussion, the individual tells you that they have been a loyal employee and they intend to retire in two years. The person also tells you that the other members of the team do not value them, and the person feels discriminated against because of the age difference between them and the other team members.
