The promise of future research in Medical Anthropology will improve humankind’s well-being in ways which have to even imagine. A plethora of diseases persist which require further research, including but not limited to, the stigma correlated to the disease, or the issues which impede treatment. By practicing medical anthropology I believe we will be able to conduct a better interview with the patient which will lead to more precise diagnosis. You can assume that medicine will gains more tools in the fight against sickness for example related to MUS (medically unexplained symptoms) illness that cannot be justified by the medical diagnoses or social problems like: poverty, exclusion, marginalization and their effect on human health. The role of the anthropologist in this area would be to provide physicians with knowledge about environment, in which the patient is functioning.
According to Colin Hemmings in his paper “Rethinking Medical Anthropology: How Anthropology is Failing Medicine,” Medical Anthropology is very effective at pointing out problems in the world of medicine, however is lacking when it coming to suggesting realistic solutions. He also debates the emptiness present between medical anthropologists and healthcare providers. He argues that medical trainees need alike training in traditional medicine as well the social aspects of medicine. He states, “Those [medical students] unable to grasp or learn social science concepts that are proven to be crucial to patient care should not be allowed to qualify [to practice medicine]” (Hemmings, 2005).
