The neuron is a nerve cell, an electrically excitable basic unit of animals that includes us, humans. As a specialized cell, it is defined by the fact that it is electrically excitable, containing complex membrane junctions known as synapses, which allow for the transmission of signals to other cells. Glial cells provide structural & metabolic support to neurons. The entirety of nerve cells and gill cells in the body make up the nervous system. In humans, the majority of the neurons are located in the central nervous system – the system that integrates, controls and manages all the activities of the human body including thinking.
