Roles and Functions of Health Care Managers

The role and/or function of a health care manager may vary based on what type of a facility one works in. For example, a manager that works in a long term care facility may oversee several areas of the facility with the help from other departmental managers. Managers that work in the hospital may oversee one or more departments (“emergency room, fast track and step down unit.”) However, the manager of a clinic or physician’s office may oversee the entire facility. Another manager is the clinical manager; they are responsible for creating and implementing policies for specific departments, and preforming the performance evaluations of the personnel, as well as developing a budget for the department. Clinical managers have experience in the health care operations in the department one oversees. The health information manager is responsible for securing and maintaining patients’ records.
