Self-efficacy beliefs are: “people’s judgments of their capabilities to organize and execute courses of action required to attain designated types of performances” (Bandura, p. 391, cited in http://www.des.emory.edu/mfp/eff.html).

To raise or enhance your level of self-efficacy, you might consider the following suggestions. You can also suggest these to others, as a way to increase their self-efficacy.

1. Knowledge is the key: You need to understand what you do and don’t know by questioning yourself. Understand yourself and why you do what you do. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. If what you are doing is not working and giving you life that you want, learn new knowledge, skills to build your competence. Ask yourself where you need more knowledge and experiences. Learn how to effectively use your brain, to focus and to control your thoughts are skills that you can acquire if you put in the effort and determination. Increasing your knowledge base and skills leads to success, which enhances levels of self-efficacy.
